THE JOB

The Legal Assistant provides administrative support to the Corporation’s legal function. He/she conducts research, drafts documents, process loan registration, provides exceptional customer service, and is responsible for organizing and maintaining all legal documents kept on-site.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a one-year training program as a condition of employment for this position.

Education & Experience

  1. An Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field
  2. Two years of related work experience

Required Skills & Abilities

  1. Superior communication skills – proficient in English Language
  2. Knowledge of the various Registries in Belize and process for legal searches
  3. Excellent planning and organizational skills
  4. Ability to be thorough and pay attention to detail
  5. Ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure
  6. Demonstrate professional approach and positive attitude
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  8. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethical behavior

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Drafts various types of legal documents for new loans in accordance with the Corporation’s policies and practices
  2. Conduct Abstract of Searches and Parcel Searches of land titles in connection with Lending at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Archives, Supreme Court and Belize Company Registry.
  3. Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times.
  4. Conduct Registration of legal documentations at Lands Registry, Land Titles Unit, and Belize Company Registry.

5. Updates registered securities under the newly land adjudication areas as             needed.
6. Organize and maintain Recorded Securities received from Ministry of                   Natural Resources for safe keeping.
7. Research files in connection with loan repayment – Final Payment                        Certificates.
8. Renewal of Bill of Sale before expiration.
9. Provide support to Credit Delivery, Portfolio Management Departments, as      requested to verify legal fees schedule.
10. Prepare Receipts for Legal documents to Clients.
