Belmopan City | May 28, 2026 – The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the Central Building Authority (CBA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration in promoting safe, affordable, and climate-resilient construction across Belize’s residential, agricultural, industrial, and commercial sectors. The agreement represents DFC’s mandate to provide long term financing with CBA’s statutory role in regulating and enforcing national building standards.
As Belize continues to face increasing climate-related risks, including hurricanes, flooding, droughts, and rising temperatures, this partnership between DFC and CBA seeks to close a critical gap between access to financing and regulatory compliance, ensuring that the projects DFC finances are built to the safety and environmental standards the Belize’s climate context demands. The three-year MOU will see both organizations collaborate to:
- Promote safe, affordable, and climate-resilient construction practices across Belize,
- Streamline the review and approval process for building plans submitted by DFC clients,
- Support the development of affordable pre-approved housing plans,
- Encourage the adoption of energy-efficient and sustainable building technologies, and
- Conduct joint public education and stakeholder engagement initiatives on building compliance and resilience.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to support Belize’s long-term development goals while improving the quality, safety, and resilience of infrastructure across the country. By combining financial support with technical expertise and regulatory oversight, DFC and CBA aim to contribute to stronger communities, safer buildings, and greater economic and environmental resilience for Belize.
