THE POSITION

The Systems & Network Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, security, monitoring, and maintenance of the Corporation’s networks, servers, and core infrastructure across headquarters and all branch sites. The role owns operational delivery of network and infrastructure services, including FortiGate firewalls, Cisco switching, UniFi wireless, virtualized servers, and Microsoft 365, and contributes to solution design. Positioned between the Systems Administrator and the Systems & Network Senior Administrator, the Systems & Network Administrator coordinates with and provides technical guidance to the System Administrator and the IT Service Desk, and is expected to step into the Senior System & Network Administrator’s operational responsibilities during absences. The role supports the execution of the Corporation’s cybersecurity and IT continuity priorities.

Education & Experience

  • An Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • At least four years of related hands-on experience in systems and network administration.
  • A recognized networking certification is required (for example, Cisco CCNA). Microsoft certifications (AZ-900, MS-900, SC-900) and additional security certifications are an asset.
  • Experience acting in a lead or deputy technical capacity is an asset.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Network Infrastructure and Firewall Administration: Configure, administer, and optimize the Corporation’s network infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, switching, and wireless networks, while monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring secure, reliable, and uninterrupted connectivity across all locations.
  • Server, Identify and Cloud Administration: Administer and maintain server, cloud, and identity management environments, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, virtualization, backups, and patch management, while ensuring secure access controls, system availability, and business continuity.
  • Physical Network and Cabling: Perform structured cabling, including RJ45 termination, cable testing, and patch panel work troubleshoot physical network issues, and maintain organized network environments in server rooms and closets.
  • Cybersecurity Operations: Support the Corporation’s cybersecurity operations by implementing security controls, managing endpoint protection and threat detection, assisting with vulnerability remediation, delivering staff security awareness training, and ensuring compliance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting: Conduct daily network health checks, maintain asset inventory, update technical documentation, and produce reports while escalating critical incidents.
  • Deputy and Technical Leadership: Act as deputy to the Senior Administrator, provide technical guidance and escalation support, and contribute to infrastructure design and IT service operations.
  • Projects and Continuous Improvement: Deliver infrastructure projects, develop SOPs, and recommend enhancements to systems, networks, and processes.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Fortigate next-generation firewall administration: security policies, NAT, zones, high availability, and IPSec/SSL VPN
  • SD-WAN configuration, traffic steering, and failover across branch locations
  • Cisco IOS switching: VLANs, trunking, STP, port security, port channels, and inter-VLAN routing
  • UniFi wireless administration: access point provisioning, SSID configuration, RF optimization, and client troubleshooting
  • Windows Server administration: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
  • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) hybrid identity and Microsoft 365 tenant administration, including Exchange and SharePoint
  • Virtualized environments (VMware) and backup and recovery (Veeam), including restore testing
  • Endpoint protection and EDR, patch management, and vulnerability remediation
  • Structured cabling practices: RJ45 termination, cable testing, and patch panel troubleshooting
  • TCP/IP networking fundamentals: routing, switching, NAT, and DNS
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and network problems with minimal supervision
  • Ability to deputize for the Senior System & Network Administrator and coordinate operational work and changes
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and mentoring to the Service Desk and the System Administrator
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with non-technical staff and management; proficient in the English language
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and documentation skills, with attention to detail
  • Demonstrates a mature and professional approach and presence
  • Resourceful and reliable under operational pressure; able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of the Corporation’s purpose and objectives
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethical behavior
