DFC provides $5,000 in Covid-19 Relief initiative

In keeping with its commitment to social responsibility, the Development Finance Corporation (DFC), from 11th to 15th May, 2020, made donations to approximately 100 households across Belize. In its ‘A Helping Hand, Covid-19 Relief Effort’ the Corporation distributed a combination of food hampers directly to households and Vouchers redeemable for grocery items at selected stores countrywide.

The ‘A Helping Hand’ initiative was sponsored by the DFC and spearheaded by DFC’s staff at the Corporation’s six branch locations. For example, staff in Belize City distributed food vouchers in Belize City as well as purchased, packed and distributed grocery hamper to families in San Pedro town. In Orange Walk, Corozal and Toledo food Vouchers were given out to Families, while in San Ignacio and Dangriga Grocery Hampers were put together and delivered.

‘A Helping Hand’ initiative also included the distribution of Grocery hampers to 30 families in the Belmopan Area and the coordination of Lunch to 20 senior citizens, identified by Help Age Belize, Belmopan chapter.

Recipients for this food assistance program were identified through DFC staff with the support of the Ministry of Human Development and Village Councils.

The DFC is keenly aware of the unprecedented challenges our country is facing given Covid-19 and wishes to underscore that only by working together and helping one another will we be able to weather this storm and indeed emerge stronger, as a people and nation.
